Three... Burst Mode

Day #209

A absolutely gorgeous fall day to spend down at the river and go exploring the river bed. We counted 9 tires in the river... who, what when and why? We also discovered a grocery cart buried in the sand, rocks and gravel. Now can you imagine in 200+ years some archaeologists would find this stuff!  I wonder what they would say on some TV show like Exploration Unknown?!?

The photo I am submitting today is "Three" shot in 'Burst Mode' which was great capturing birds in flight!

Three... Burst Mode

A beautiful Sunday spent together, collecting rocks, watching the bird life, and people... plus, trying very hard not to get my feet wet!

Thank you, have a great day!

See you very soon!

Fallen

Day #207

The photo challenge word for the day is "Fallen"... so, instead of finding something that has fallen, is falling, had fallen. I thought about laying on my lawn in the looking up at the tree ...

As kids we use to twirl and spin around till we have fallen down on the ground...  giggling and laughing as we looking up at the sky and feel the earth spin and move under us.

Laying under my tree, looking up...taking the photo...remembering..

Did I care what the neighbors thought?? Nope...

Seasonal

Day #203

With Fall/Autumn comes the food! Seasonal food that you can eat all year around, but just tastes so much better in the Fall.
I am talking about pumpkins and all sorts of squash, like butternut, acorn. Then there is the sweet potatoes, yams. I am dreaming of pumpkin pie, muffins, pumpkin bread, baked butternut squash with just salt, pepper and butter... Okay.. now I am hungry !
Today's menu is potato and squash soup and maybe I'll add a handful of Swiss chard... I will see...

Seasonal

A nice warm bowl of potato squash soup with home made crusty bread and local cheeses... oh my tummy is ready!!
(I will do a photo shoot with the finished product! )

Enjoy the season! Thank you for taking a look!

Eyes

Day #202
When walking in the woods, have you ever felt like someone was watching you? While I was at the Hudson's Bay Wetland Nature Park, that is what I was experiencing. There was this little squirrel, that not only watched me, but followed me. Was he curious if I had nuts or seeds, or just curious?  We kept a safe distance from each other so I could get this shot.

Later as I was walking back to my car, a bird stayed on his branch intrigued with my camera to my face....

When walking in the woods, do you ever wonder if there is something out there watching you?

Thank you

Until next time, take care

Path

Day #201

The Poplar tree, gets a small little bug that travels on the leaves, leaving a trail  or path behind.
As kids were pretended they were treasure maps... or sometimes they were special hieroglyphic messages left from an ancient beings... or...

Path

I used my macro lens, and used a narrow aperture to get this shot of the poplar leaf floating in our pond.
You wonder where did this little insect start and end his path....

Wide Aperture

Day #199

The aperture setting is measured in f-stop values, with apertures such as f/1.4 and f/2.8 often referred to as 'wide' apertures, as they have the widest opening and let in the most light, while apertures with higher f-stop numbers (f/11, f/16 and so on) are (perhaps rather confusingly) referred as small, or narrow.
Today, I was back out at the CN Bridge and shot this photo at F5.6. Middle of the road so for apertures.

Wide Aperture

I was very curious that these post pylons, they start at the bank of the river, and appeared, now that the river bed is exposed.
I have been wondering about the story.. were they the first bridge across, or simply an old dock to the river since we do know that stern wheeler's traveled up and down these rivers from Soda Creek and stopped in the area.

I thank you for taking the time to check out my blog!

Road, Location, Symmetry, Fear

Day #198

My photo shoot for today was suppose to be Narrow Aperture. After doing some research, mostly for locations.. I headed out to Cottonwood Island Park, near the boat launch.
I thought that the water, the banks, the rocky beach there I could work on my narrow aperture would be a great spot.
After I was finished taking a batch of photos, and also  chatting with a lovely couple, I headed towards the CN Bridge, to continue to work on my narrow and wide aperture shots. Thinking I was done, I started to head back to my vehicle.
I quickly decided to to take a chance and be a bit brave.
I thought about climbing up the bank to get near the CN Train Bridge. There are some interesting graffiti art, and iron works... something for a future photo shoot... and since I was so close to the tracks that cross over the river.. I thought hey,  why not...

Fear... is on my list of photos, roads, location, also symmetry... I did them all in one click of shutter!

Road, Location, Symmetry & Fear

Why was I fearful, because there are signs posted, No Trespassing... not to mention I could hear a train approaching...

As for my Narrow Aperture.... I think I will head out very soon and keep working on that challenge.

This photo reminds me of a high school play I was in (lets say a few years back lol) called "Love Rides the Rails"... I played the widow Mrs. Hopewell... who's dear departed husband left me the railway company....

See you very soon!

Thank You!

Bracelet/Alphabet

Day #197

One of my favorite pieces of jewelry is my Pandora Bracelet. It was a gift given to me by my children. As each grand child is born, I add a jewel.

Bracelet/Alphabet

I used my 60mm macro lens, and perched the bracelet on a vase. The shot originally was a little dark. I played with the photo in light room to brighten it up.

Soon, in about 10 weeks I will add another letter to my collection.

Thank you for stopping by and taking a look.

Serenity

Day #196

Soon it will be officially the first day of Autumn/Fall. Today's photo was taken at Fort George Park here in Prince George BC. I love how the trees are lined up in row...The trees of course have been planted that way many years ago.
Soon the trees will be all yellow...another summer has come to an end.

Serenity

I played with the photo in editing.. it was a dark, cold and gloomy day.. with a little tweaking I brighted up the photo then added a bit of sun by using a dodge and burn tool!

I love how the trees are lined up, and the benches looking over the river... Serenity...  This photo is now wanting you to go there to sit relax and enjoy the local scenery.

Enjoy the photograph...

Thank you for taking a look...

See you very soon,

Wild and Free

Day #194

David Henry Thoreau wrote: "All good things are wild and free".

I have not done the research, but, there is a culture a society that follows the "Wild and Free" life style. But, for myself, when I think of "Wild and Free", I think of that wild and crazy feeling as you get when you are riding down a hill on your bicycle, no helmet and feet up on the handle bars.. and you are screaming at the top of your lungs.. Wild... The free feeling your have at the end of your work day, going on vacation, or kayaking on the Atlantic... Free!

When I think of Wild and Free, I mostly think of wild animals....Today, in our back yard there were several species of birds, who are Wild and Free, enjoying the pond, the bird bath, and everything that the garden and lawn has to offer them.

After sneaking around my back yard in sock feet (it is a rainy day!), I felt lucky to get close enough with my 70-250mm lens to capture this robin enjoying his bath.

Enjoy the day!

Jack Frost's Art

Day #193
We woke up with Jack Frost painting and dusting frost on anything he touches. Painting his designs on leaves, frost on the edges of flowers. Each time that the weather goes below 0, he comes out dances among the flowers, plants and paints his frosty paintings, not one the same.

Jack Frost's Art

It is September 14, 2018 and the summer flowers are done, fall has started and winter is on its way. Jack Frost will be around while Mother Nature paints the leaves bright colours.

Peace, Contentment, Serenity

Day #192

Relax, Peace, Contentment and Serenity, are not such words from the dictionary or the thesaurus, but words we try to incorporate into our lives.
Some people like to read, do crafts, gardening, (I do, I do, me too) some like go to the gym (not so much)  others may walk, chat with friends (yes and yes), to achieve relaxation, peace and serenity.
We may even have a favorite spot to go and reflect on our lives or to focus on your goals. Seems to be mine is be near water, and since Prince George is located at 2 rivers, they are easy destinations to go for that walk to reflect and find my inner peace then continue about my day.

Peace, Contentment, Serenity

This morning, I am pretty much alone on the river. It was a peaceful walk. To get this shot, I put my camera on the timer, then went for a walk towards the river. I had a mini tri pod to keep the camera steady and balanced.

Thank you for taking the time to check out my photo.

Breakfast

Day #191
Breakfast the first meal of the day. The time you Break the fast from the last meal and a long sleep.
Breakfast can be anything you wish... a meal to fill you up, taste good, give you energy for the day ahead, and necessary nutrients.
A friend and I went to a fairly new restaurant called, "YOLKS, all day."
Breakfast

This was called Breakfast Poutine. Two poached eggs on hash brown potatoes, bacon .. and hollandaise .. I think I am missing a few ingredients.. I may need to go back for another taste test!!
It was delicious.. and I would go back there again for breakfast or brunch!! It filled me up, tasted great, and gave me energy for the day ahead... plus the company was exceptional.
Thank you for taking a look!

Travel

Day #190

During the early 1900's, traveling to the north of British Columbia, required you to travel by stage coach, horse back or stern wheeler. Coming up to Prince George from Vancouver would take several days!  Thinking about the conditions that those traveler had to endure.

In this day and age we complain about traveling. That it takes 8 hours to drive to Vancouver. That the flight was delayed an hour.. and not many people even consider traveling by rail. And in a few weeks we can say farewell to the 'Greyhound' Bus.
If those people back in the day, could see how we travel today.. I just wonder what they would think?
Travel

Far into the distance you can see the Yellow head Bridge, take that bridge you can travel east to Edmonton.  To the left of the photo  is where the Stern-wheelers docked, and to the right, the railway tracks.

I was googling photos of what this area looked like during the 1909-1921... so different....

Thank you for reading and taking a look!

I will see you next time!

Art at an Intersection

Day  #189

Art, I have heard said, that it is in the eye of the beholder. There are many forms of Art. It is in your everyday life. I am also asked if I am artistic, or creative. I would like to think that we are all artistic or creative. From the way we dress, do our make up, placement of our living spaces, making food in the kitchen...just to name a few.

While driving to do my errands, I stopped to take this  photo of Art, it is right there as we drive past to deal with every day life.I wonder how many people don`t see it, or take it for granted.

Art at an  Intersection

This metal sculpture is not at an Art Gallery, it is not in front of an important building or even located at a park. It is on a boulevard at a busy intersection!

This piece of art, is playful.. and the emotions I feel are happy and playful ones... I guess a little reminder to be just that, as we drive past and go about our hectic lives.

Enjoy!

See you soon!

Story

Day #188

Eleafy, was a woodland fairy, who lived in the humans garden. She had a small house that the humans left for her. She is pretty sure that it was something that once belonged to the human children. She loved her house. She would sit at the window and watch the bees visiting the flowers.
The birds, and the squirrels would come and chat with Eleafy. They would tell her tales about the things they saw on their adventures. Eleafy, she didn't travel very far. The squirrel was always inviting Eleafy to come and visit his nest.
That is exactly what happened to her. After a lot of rain, the crow was out searching for food. Mr. Crow was new in the yard, he grabbed her wings, and off they flew. Eleafy tried to tell him that she was a friend and to put her back. The crow didn't listen so Eleafy tugged at one of his feathers, he let out a huge yelp, and down she went.
Eleafy, bounced off the lilac leaves, and slid down the branches. She landed with a lud on top of a cluster of mushrooms.
Story

Eleafy, didn't know where she was. But, she knew she needed to head back to her home. She was lost, alone, dirty, hungry, tired and a wee bit scared. Are you kidding she is very scared.

Here is its, my photo of the day. There were a lot of mushrooms in the yard, and I decided to create a story to go with the photo.

Have a super day!

See you soon!

Reflection

Day #187

Reflection of Summer.
Slowly the days grow chillier and darker. The trees are starting to change colour, from green to yellows and orange.
We are starting to put away the summer frocks, and dig out our warm fall sweaters.
With the end of summer comes the time to harvest the garden, picking the last of the beans, lettuce. Collecting the tomatoes as they ripen.... then putting the gardens to bed for the winter.
As we get out and enjoy the remaining days of summer, we wonder when we will wake up to frost on our windshield!

Summer seems to have come and gone so very quickly, and as I walk in our parks, I think about the summer we just had.

For me, it was doing some traveling in my own beautiful country. Having all of my children gathering here for a family wedding. Spending time with my family, children, friends, and cherishing my grandchildren!
And then there was the Wild Fires in British Columbia!

Enjoy these last couple of weeks of summer and cherish those memories you have made.

Reflection

The photo I decided to take today, was of Connaught Hill Park. Its green, lush, beautiful, and the flower beds make a great background and is a photographers paradise.
It is a great place to sit, have lunch, relax, reflect, before the 'City' gardeners will come and cut back or pull the flowers before winter.

So enjoy these last 2 weeks of summer! Enjoy the photograph!
