Books

Day #259

Books; the ones that come to my mind are my journals. Over the  years I have written many journals.
I did start writing a diary when I was in high school, I now wish I had them to read the teenage me. (high school was not a very pleasant time of my life!)
I burnt them just before leaving for college. I did a wee bit of writing during those college years, a turbulent time of my life.. and then started again as a part of grief therapy and continued because I didn't want to forget moments, that I had a story to tell.

Do I have them burnt after I die, or do share them with my children and family to read?
Something I will have to decide.

I have written an article, and spoken to a discussion group about writing a journal.

I have started to keep mementos, theater tickets, plane/train tickets, tours, post card, photographs, letters, notes and cards. Sometimes I get my grand kids to write in my journal for me to find and read.

Books

I try and write every day. Some days it is a few lines, and sometimes it is pages and pages!
Most of my journals have been gifts from my children and my Aunt Pat. Writing in them makes it more special for me.

Thank you,
Please share any comments or suggestions.

take care,

until next time

Something I loved about today

Day #258

I recently did a photo shoot for my twin daughters. They wanted me to take photos of their "Smash Cake" Birthday celebration.
I am not sure if I was there as "Mom" not only taking photos but celebrating with them.. or as the photographer?
As I took photos of these beautiful girls/ladies. I see the differences in their character... and at the end the session all I can say is I love them so much. I love all my children so fiercely it is hard to breathe!

There is a reason I love taking photos... its that rare photo that you find ... that tells its own story... I wanted to share this photo with you!
For me, getting that spontaneous photo, that reacts, creates an emotion..for me it was 'Love'!

Something I loved about today

For me, I not only love the reaction on Kim's face when the dog (not hers) enters the photo session, but Caitlin's eyes...

Something I loved about today....

Thank you!!

See you very soon!

Today was a fluffy snowy day,

and rain.

Before the rain
melted the snow away

Christmas Cactus Flower

Day #253

Tis the season that my Christmas cactus has started to bud out and flower. I just love the colors and the texture. Using my macro lens, I get to see close up this beautiful flower.

In this photo I was using my 55-250mm lens, even though I was shooting with natural light from the window, this photo turned out dark.

I did have a couple photos from my macro lens, that turned out rather well, but I decided for today's blog, I would edit a fairly dark photo and see what I can do with it. The magic of Light Room!

Tell me what you think?

See you very soon!

Parallel Lines

Day #251

Today's photo challenge, is "parallel lines" . One would thing of streets, railways, bridges, construction. I was thinking of photo ideas as I was multi tasking. I was doing some Christmas decoration preparations. I realized I was working with 'parallel lines'!

Parallel Lines

Making these German Christmas Stars, you are using 4 strips of paper, and after about 40 steps, you have a star. This is a tradition that my grandmother passed down through the generations. I am pleased that her great grandchildren are making these "German Christmas Stars'.

Thank you for taking a look! Any comments are very welcomed!

I shall see you very soon!

Retro/Vintage

Day #248
Have you ever touched, smelled, heard something that time warped you into the past?
There are songs that remind us of our younger years, a moment in time when all things are possible. The smell of perfume, food, the smell of the woods, falling leaves. The smell of that eraser in the desk at the office...the smell of school.

Retro/Vintage

These two colours of yarn, I have seen them made up before! The colours,  the texture, reminds me something that I have seen before. Retro? Vintage? Not sure if it was something my mother had made? Or someone else?
For a moment I was in a time warp.... with the cold frost outside and touching this  yarn....

Thank you for letting me share!

See you tomorrow!

Macro/Frost

Day #246

We talk about Mother Nature and her control over the weather and nature itself. Then when winter hits us hard we complain about "Old Man Winter"! Then there is this fellow,
Jack Frost. He made his appearance today in Prince George, with the -12c weather after Mother Nature dumped a few inches of snow on us!

Jack Frost, never really had his own story, until movie producers decided he needed one. His name was simply used in tales, poems, and songs to ad some charm to winter. He would created fern-like spirals on our windows, and make us all very chilly.
In folklore, he was seen as an old man, sometimes a child, or a teenager. His mother thought to be Kari the Norse god of the winds, her son was named Jokul Frosti which translates to frosty icicle.

Macro/Frost

Today, Jack Frost danced around Prince George, painting frosty leaves with his magic!
So very pretty Jack!

It was fun walking around outside with camera in hand, trying to get a close up view of Jack Frosts masterpieces.

See you very soon,

A Wish

Day #245

Star light star bright,
The first star I see tonight,
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have the wish I wish tonight.

As children we all make wishes. The first star, a shooting star, we wish on lady bugs, birthday candles, a white horse, wishing wells, making a wish on a fallen eye lash, a feather, dandelions, necklace clasp, making a wish while throwing a penny into water, making a wish on a new moon, and the time 11:11.

The common wishes adults may wish for are friends and family, happiness, health, falling in love, marriage, children, success, self improvement and to help other people.

A feather for my wish

What do I wish for? I would wish for continued health and happiness. Winning the 6/49 lotto ticket, travel the world, no more forest fires, more fun photo ideas, oh and lets not forget about peace.

I hope all your wishes come true.. mine have.. I am blessed.

See you very soon!

Ice Sparkle

Day #244

It had snowed for about 3 1/2 hours last night and left us with about 3 inches of snow. Covering up the gardens, and making the branches on the raspberry bushes heavy.

The snow on the trees look like a Christmas Card.

After doing some snow removal, I walked around my yard trying to find something unique to photograph.

Mother Nature has started to decorate the branches of trees for winter.

On the Cutting Board

Day #243

On the cutting board... is always something on the go. Whether it is breakfast fruit, cheese and crackers, or dinner being prepared. It is a well used utensil in the kitchen.
We love having people over for a feast, or just wine and nibbles...our children, family and friends are always welcome in our kitchen.

Thank you for taking a look!

See you soon! Now lets see what is being prepped on the cutting board tonight?

A moment (or two)

Day #241
Novembers photo challenge word list, contains ideas like: A wish, A moment, Rough Parallel lines, Outside, A Place,  just to name a few ideas.
I was stuck with any thought of what to shoot today!!
Lately my "Go To' Place for photo ops and ideas is the local Parks. Today was no exception. I headed down to Cottonwood Island Park.
Sometimes that moment comes along, and you have to take hold of it.
A Moment

The chickadees here at this park are not afraid of humans, esp. humans baring seeds! They were cooperative and stayed to have their photo taken.
At one point during my walk, just the crinkling of the zip lock bag of seeds made these Chickadees come flying to the closest tree near me!
Another Moment

It was a very cool experience, esp. trying to focus my 7D canon camera in one hand with my 15-85 mm wide angle lens (yes not a point and shoot and plus heavy!), and keep my hand out stretched for the birds to feed, and not jump up and down, cause yes, I was pretty excited!

A moment.. you just have to take it and enjoy it!

Have a great day..I hope you have lots of moments to make it a great day!

See you tomorrow!

cute little goblins, ghouls

Today is November 1st!
and we woke up with snow!
Large flakes and very wet!
Will it last?
We do know that snow and
winter is on its way.
Mother Nature is
