Soft

Day #87
I would like to introduce to you 'Cuz Bear'. He was a gift from Pat, Richard, Vic, David Gill. People who I am blessed to have in my life.
Pat wanted me to have Cuz Bear to travel with me. I was doing a lot of road trips and she wanted me to have a companion. So, Cuz Bear rode shot gun.
Richard has been gone for 2 years, and yesterday Auntie Pat had passed away.
Soft

There are so many stories to tell, like when I first met Don's Aunt Pat and family. The cows were loose (there was a bra involved, not mine) oh how about the time while fishing Pat had sun burnt her ears (a bra was involved, again not mine)! Then there was the midnight Pink spaghetti caper! How about the time she used her tube top as a frozen corn compress! The best story is when we announced that we were expecting twins and the midnight milk toast to the 2 healthy girls.
So many stories and memories.
I miss you Patricia Gill... you and Richard will always remain in my heart.
Thank you for taking a look at my blog!

Photo Manipulation

Day #85

Today the photo challenge I chose is Photo  Manipulation. I chose a picture I took at a local park, and with using one of the presets.

Original  Photo

After Photo Manipulation
With a few touches, the photo changed from spring picture, to a fall photo.
Now you wonder when you see some great photos, if its real, or manipulated, enhanced, effects added.

Thank you for taking a look at my blog.

Squirrel

Day #84

I love books, I love to read, and I have a thing squirrel for empty books. Journals, I have a thing for squirrel empty lined journals. I try and imagine what a person could write squirrel in a journal. Would I write about my dreams, because some times squirrel my dreams would make a good novel.

Squirrel

I hope you liked my little bit of 'UP' movie humor! We had a squirrel feasting off the birds seed bell. He was a real gymnast trying to get at this tasty treat!

Thank you for taking a look!

See you again squirrel tomorrow!

Candy

Day #83

Last week at the nursery/greenhouse I found a plant called "Candy Corn" ! I remember Candy Corn from getting Trick or Treats at Halloween! Now I have a plant that grows "Candy Corn"!
Candy

The flowers are only about 1/2 inches long in length! I see that there are more flowers coming. I tried using my macro lens..and will try again when the mosquitoes aren't eating my feet!

Emotions

Day #82

Today we took a drive, north of Prince George BC, to a rock quarry;gravel pit. We were on a hunt for gravel and flat rocks for our pond in our own yard.

This quarry, if you could imagine, that there were heavy machines working in the pit, driving around with dump trucks loaded with crushed gravel...and then the pit filled with water.

What I found amazing was that mother nature is taking back the quarry, plants are growing, trees of all kinds, wild flowers, wild strawberries are also growing.

Birds are swooping down and eating the bugs that are on the water, and the most exciting part is .... there are fish in the water! Watching the fish jump and rise to the surface was so exciting!

Emotions

Humans have also found this place! Not only did they find this rock quarry a place to cool off but people have left their mark, and they also forgot to bring home the air mattress and empties.
I would like to see this place in 5 years time... if only we humans would leave only our foot prints.

We collected $5.85 worth of empty bottles and tins. Those are what we could safely reach. I can't imagine what is in the bottom of this quarry?

Thank you for taking a look!

See you tomorrow.

Birthday

Day #81

Birthdays are special times to celebrate a new age, a new year. As adults, when you are approaching the middle years, the golden years, we/they sometimes don't want to celebrate the day. Some do not want to admit that we are getting older, wiser, better...yes like wine!
Children, love Birthdays, the birthday song, the candles, the attention, the party, cake, ice cream and yes presents!

Birthday

Today it is my grandson's 8th birthday, I told him I was going to eat a piece of cake today! My second choice is chocolate....
Happy Birthday!

Out of Focus

Day #80

Going to the green houses/nursery around town can be so tempting for me. Filling my pots, flower beds, gardens with plants and blooms alike.
Today, I was just "looking" and decided that this Quad-colored Hibiscus Bush needed to come home with me. My deck needed beauty and color!
The Hibiscus is a genus of the flowering plants in the mallow family. There are several hundred species that are native to warm temperate climate, subtropical and tropical. So that means this baby is coming inside for the fall and winter months.

Out of Focus

I did a bit more reading, and I discovered that you can use the hibiscus flowers to make tea which is tart in flavor and filled with Vitamin C!  So, my purchase is not only pretty but healthy too!
I took several pictures, and I like this one because parts are in focus and parts are out of focus... and I think that it still shows off how beautiful the Hibiscus plant is.

Thank you for taking a look!

See you tomorrow!

Train tracks

Day #79

There is something to be said about trains. From movies, books, and stories from our ancestors traveling across Canada by rail. Riding a train is a romantic notion. Last year I have ridden on a train from Vancouver to Seattle, Munich to Paris, Paris to London, and  the Polar Express train in Mossleigh AB.
Train Tracks
The train tracks run around Lheili T'enneh Memorial Park, and the Little Prince has delighted children and others for many years. The Prince is a 24"gauge  wood fired steam engine that was built in 1912. The Prince was one of the work horses that helped build The Grand Trunk Pacific railway. The Little Prince is a national treasure right in my own home town. And yes, my children and I have gone around the park on The Little Prince.

Cityscape

Day #78

Right in the centre of Prince George is  Connaught Hill Park. When you drive around, or walk around the park, you get to see 360 degree view of the city.
Or you can find a bench and sit relax to watch the city and the clouds before you. Some people bring their lunch and find the perfect spot either at a picnic table or sitting by the flower beds.

Cityscape

The City plants over 3000 plants and flowers. So, many wedding, prom or family photos have been taken up at Connaught Hill Park. Beauty in the centre of the city.

Pattern

Day #77

What Does the Marigold Flower Mean?

Aside from being an important part of any organic garden as a pest deterrent, the Marigold has loftier meanings like:
  • Despair and grief over the loss of love
  • The beauty and warmth of the rising sun
  • Winning the affections of someone through hard work
  • Creativity and the drive to succeed
  • Desire for wealth
  • Cruelty and coldness due to jealousy
  • Sacred offerings to the Gods
  • Remembering and celebrating the dead
  • Promoting cheer and good relations in a relationship
While the Marigold has picked up a few negative connotations over the years, most of what it means remains positive in contemporary times.

Pattern
We planted Marigolds down our driveway yesterday. We planted them because of their bright colour and joy they bring to us. Yes they are a pest deterrent, and maybe we are doing a Sacred offering to the Gods (so we can have a bounty harvest this year!)

Enjoy the season!

See you tomorrrow!

Storm/Clouds

Day #76

When my brother Ernie, and I were kids, we loved to sit at our bedroom window and watch the lightning, and listen to the thunder. We would see the lightning then count to see how long until the thunder would boom. When we listened to the thunder and lightning we would cheer and make comments like: "Wow, did you hear that!", " Awesome, that was a good one".
I remember telling my youngest brothers that it was angels bowling, or angels moving furniture!

It was exciting for us, some summers the thunder storms were better than fire works.
Our mother didn't care for thunder storms, she was always glad that they were over. For us it was like Mother Nature putting on a show just for us!

Storm Clouds
Even now, at night, laying in bed listening to the thunder. Knowing you are safe and sound, then drifting off to sleep and the thunder rolls away in the distance.
The thunder clouds were rolling in and starting to boom. The birds had already headed for cover, but for this last one!

Thank you for taking a look at my blog!

Until tomorrow.

Heart

Day #75

In my flower bed I have Dicentra Spectabilis!
No, its not a plant disease! It actually is the Latin name for Bleeding Hearts. Or what I have in my flower bed is "Old Fashioned" Bleeding hearts.

The red and pink flower type of Bleeding Hearts mean 'Romantic Love', the white flower type of Bleeding Hearts means 'Purity'. I have the white and pink that just started to bloom. There are other types available...and I may need to do a search.

As a child, I thought that it was baby hearts.. waiting for a baby! Or lovers with broken hearts and that is where your heart goes...on a plant.. till the next true love.

Mother Nature has this creative touch. For me trying to capture is beauty with the camera is my paint brush.

When company comes for dinner, you sometimes prepare the foods that are your favorite, the guests favorites, your specialty, or something new.
I have new torte pans that I have received as Christmas gifts...and so I found a couple of new recipes.

I must say licking the bowl, I think the guests will be pleased with the result.
The dinner is tomorrow, and I did make some small tortes as a taste test tonight!

Fruit

Day #72

The strawberry. A spring and summer favorite. When we were kids we enjoyed them fresh from mothers garden. Wanting to eat the biggest juiciest one! Up the hill, behind our back yard, there were wild strawberries, warm from the sun and oh so sweet! Our own private pickings.

Strawberry jams, jellies, short cakes & pies
ice cream and salads of every kind
and sometimes even strawberry wine!
But to be eaten right off the vine,
oh yes, so divine!

sweet juice explodes in my mouth

Day # 68

My flower bed is an eclectic collection of items. I use my grand kids out grown rubber boots as planters, solar lights, clay figures of Snow White and the 7 dwarfs. Even my late husbands tricycle from when he was a toddler!
My flower beds are unique, like I am, they tell a story. What ever story you can create.

Interesting Shot

Day #67

I had some errands to do today, and I thought since it was a lovely morning, I would go for a drive to Cottonwood Island Park take a walk.
Well, silly me, I had forgotten to take my camera! Thankfully, I had my IPhone with me.
I did take a couple of pictures, but the walk was very short since the river is high and flooding the park.

Interesting Shot
When I returned home and reviewed my pictures on my cell phone, to my surprise this is what I found!
So this is my photo for the day!

My work space

Day #66

My work space, well one of them. I think we have several work spaces. At your job, in the kitchen, in the garden, and the garage.
Where I write in my journal, chat on the phone, search on google, download pictures, edit. I plan my dinners, write my letters, plan future projects.

My workspace
This work space was created just for me. A place where my memories come alive....

Family

Day #65

Family is a group of people that consists of parent(s) and child(ren), whether they are living together in the same dwelling or not. They genuinely love, trust, care about and look out for each other. Real family is a bond that can not be broken by any means.

My daughter Kimberly has 2 dogs. Athena  was a rescue dog she adopted. This poor dog was scared and thin. Now she is loving, gently and beautiful inside and out. Watching my daughter and Athena together,  you can see the love in both their eyes.
Kim, adopted Anubis, he is 3 months old. He is like any other toddler, full of energy and mischief. He wrestles Athena like any toddle would do with a big sister. Anubis is also curious puppy, esp. when I was trying to take his picture!
They are a family.

Family
So in honor of Mothers Day that is just around the corner, I honor 'family'!

Happy Mothers Day Kim!

Long Shadows

Day #63
As a child I loved going for walks and watching my shadow. When the sun is high, your shadow is short and under your feet. The sun in the morning the sun is long, and tall. I loved seeing myself in my shadow, very tall and lean.

Growth

Day #62

It just seemed like yesterday that there was a foot of snow in the backyard, and now I see growth.
One day nothing in the flower beds, next the tulips and the Sword Ferns are poking out of the dirt!  I like how the fiddle heads are all curled up so tight.
