Day #146

Tomorrow afternoon in front of their families, Danielle Gajic and Andrew Pedde will say their wedding vows in my backyard. Danielle has always been my daughter in law, and tomorrow they make it official.
Today's photo challenge is "Rings".  I had decided to photograph their rings... as a keep sake of the promise that they will make to each other tomorrow!
Rings

I used my 70-250mm it get this shot. I wanted to have the rings in the foreground and their picture in the background,  a wee bit soft... and yes that is my cell phone! That is the trend now days...

Organization

Day #145

Today's photo challenge was 'Organization'. The first thing I thought of was Robert's (now our) pantry. This is amazing...everything in its place... anything you may need to either cook, bake, or just plain eat! We have home made ketchup that is better than store bought, home made jams and jellies, pickled beans, canned peaches just to name a few!

After taking the photo, I used a filter in Light Room to give is an antique look!

Red Velvet

Day #143
A macaron (/ˌmækəˈrɒn/ mak-ə-RON;[1][2] French: [makaʁɔ̃]) or French macaroon (/ˌmækəˈrn/ mak-ə-ROON)[3][4] is a sweet meringue-based confection made with egg white, icing sugar, granulated sugar, almond powder or ground almond, and food coloring. There is some variation in whether the term macaron or macaroon is used, and the related coconut macaroon is often confused with the macaron.

There are actually 2 main methods of making macarons – the Italian method and the French method (the third method is the Swiss which is not as popular).
Both methods yield essentially the same yummy and gorgeous looking concoction that most people will recognize as a macaron. However, there are a few subtle differences in the shape and taste between the two types. For the consumer, both types are equally delicious, where it really matters is which method you prefer and is able to master as a baker
(From Wikipedia)

Red Velvet

I wish I had made these...but I can say, that this one was made in Canada. When I see a macaron I  me think of my daughter. She is is a pastry chef, and loves macarons!  We did a trip to Europe and we had a macaron feast while there!

The photo is taken here in Prince George,BC, at Paddle Wheel Park on the Banks of the Fraser River!

Grass

Day #142

Grass

It grows green and lush like a carpet.
We cut it, we water it
and it grows.
Kids run on it,
we lay on it.
and in the hot sun it
may dry and turn yellow,
but a rainfall it turns green once again.
It grows in places where we don't want it
like in the cracks of a side walk or
in the flower beds.
In the winter is freezes and sleeps, then in
spring we have....
 Grass...

Grass           Thank you for taking a look at my blog!                                 +

I had noticed that the lawn/grass sparkled this morning. (we watered the lawn last night)
I used my macro lens to get close up shots of the water droplets on the blades of grass.

Thank you for taking a look at my blog!

Camouflage

Day #141

This afternoon I had decided to check out 'The Hudson Bay Wetland', here in the middle of Prince George BC. It is a wetland habitat for a variety of ducks, sand pipers, geese and many more birds and other wild life.
Today I just had my SX530HS with me and trying to zoom in and capture the wild life that were having a swim and enjoying a feast.

Hummingbird

Day #138
One of my challenges in photography, is trying to capture a great photo of hummingbirds. They zip from flower to flower so quickly that focusing a clear picture could be a challenge!

While I was outside trying to photograph a close up of my flowers, a humming bird appeared and zipped away!
I have my 55mm-250mm lens on my camera... and I did manage to get a picture that was a bit on the soft side.

So now I know that they like this plant, I will keep my camera ready!

Taste of Summer

Day #136

Summer time is the time for berries... I have 4 new blue berry bushes, and 4 strawberry plants. So, even though they are tasty... and not producing enough to make muffins, tarts or other tasty desserts... adding them to the local store bought produce adds to the baking recipe!
The house smells of warm blue berry & strawberry straight from the oven! For dessert, a berry tart with a little ice cream on the side... the taste of summer!

Taste of Summer

This is such an easy recipe, some fruit, sugar, corn starch, lemon juice and pastry shells... and in the oven... warm and tasty... Summer time taste buds are awakened.

Friends/cousins

Day #135
Two years ago, it has been 2 years since these kids were all together at Grandma Julie's house! Three of the grand kids live in Alberta, 2 on the west coast.
They ate berries fresh off the bushes..they chased each other around the yard. They created space ships out of Lego. They ate dinner and dessert with gusto... while the grown ups had a visit.  And I, Grandma Julie,  snapped away with my little sis camera.

As I watched the my grand kids interact with each other... I had remembered  that I had converesation many years ago with Don the grandfather of these kids pictured here.
He was looking forward one day in the future, to be able to sit on the deck and watch his grand children play.... Guess what, I did that yesterday!!
I hope grandpa Don was watching from heaven!!

Yellow

Day #134

ech·i·na·cea
ˌekəˈnāSHə/
noun
noun: echinacea; plural noun: echinaceas
  1. a North American cone flower. It is used in herbal medicine, largely for its antibiotic and wound-healing properties.
When my father died, I gave everyone in the family a packet of wild flower seeds. And the Cone flower was among them.
When I scattered the seeds in my flower bed, only the Echinacea came up.... one lonely plant !!! Each year it scatters out a few more seeds and I get a few more plants.
I have heard from other family members that they had no luck with their seeds! I found it very important that when I sold and moved from my house that my Cone Flowers come along with me!

When my Cone Flower is in bloom, I think fondly of my father (yes there is a story about my dad here... another time!)

Splash

Day #132
Today is a good day to play with water, with the outside temperatures at 28c plus. With hot weather  like this its not only great to drink water to keep hydrated, but a person can play with water too!
I thought it would be fun to see what kind of splash effects I could get with a clear water jug, a hand full of cherries and cold water and my camera.
Trying to take a photograph one handed, even with a mini tripod..and hold the cherries and drop them into the water was fun and challenging at the same time.
Splash
Here is my first attempt! Something  to practice with different objects, a timer or remote trigger!

Thyme

Day #131

My  photo challenge for today was 'Time'.  One thinks of time, clocks, watches, and all matters of time.

But, I thought of the herb 'Thyme'.

We have a patch of low growing spreading aromatic plant, which is also in the 'Mint' Family.
Thyme derives its name from the Greek "Thymus," meaning courage. A bed of thyme was thought to be a home for fairies, and a patch was often set aside for them. Thyme was burned inside homes to drive off stinging insects.
Highland Scots made a drink from thyme to summon courage. The Greek used the symbol of thyme to represent style and elegance. In the Middle Ages, it stood for chivalry and was often embroidered on knights tunics.

Through the ages thyme has served a number of medicinal roles. It has been boiled in wine to make a digestive drink and used for diarrhea and menstrual cramps.

"Thyme has potent anti fungal properties and has been used to treat athletes foot."
"Used in aromatherapy, thyme elevates ."the mood and relieve stress".

Thyme
I have alot of thyme on my hands, so, I should remain in a happy stress free mood!

Glasses

Day #130

The challenge for today is 'Glasses'.  So immediately I thought of eye glasses, and the mirrored lens sun glasses.

I have seen photos taken at the beach, with the photographer taking a photo of the sunglasses in the sand, and you see the reflection of a tropical vacation.

So, I thought, I would take a pair of mirrored sun glasses I found and try the same concept except I would photograph the reflection of a Prince George land mark.... the CN Bridge.

I like this photo, I can see the not only the bridge, the river, but the path at the park as well.
I think this concept will be fun to try at different locations.

So, instead of wearing these glasses, I think I will put them in my camera bag!

Camera Apps

Day #129

I love flowers, what girl doesn't care for flowers. I love bouquets in vases around my house. I love simple daisy to elegant roses. Wild flowers growing along the road make me want to stop and pick them.

In the spring, I start planting my flowers, not only in the flower beds, and giant flower pots, I like finding and using unusual containers like my grand kids old rubber boots!

I found this container at a local shop. I decided to play with my camera app to get an unique photo for my photo challenge.
I would use this picture on a card... a thinking of you card.

Anyways back out side and playing with my camera and flowers!

Blue

Day #127

My friend Catherine and I, we had made a lunch date. Since it is summer time, and since we have a couple lakes close by. I thought a picnic lunch at the lake.
We had a delicious outdoor meal, while we watched the eagle fishing, kids swimming, and clouds tumble past.
Not only did we as friends enjoyed our lunch, lake side with a view ... we were not pestered by waiters!

Family

Day #126

Here are a few more fun facts you might not have known about these special birds. 1. Goose is actually the term for female geese, male geese are called ganders. A group of geese on land or in water are a gaggle, while in the air they are called a skein.

Family
Did you know that geese:

- eat more than 1-5 pounds of grass per day
- produce about 1-2 lbs of waste per day
- average about 5 goslings per year
- weigh 20 to 25 pounds
- mate for life and will stay together
throughout the year

These photos were taken at West Lake Park, about 20 min. from Prince George BC
