Handwriting

Day #330

This maybe a myth, but I have heard rumors that the Elementary Schools will not be teaching the children how to hand write. Which I think is a sad situation. Just think of the letters, stories, poems their families had written, and that generation of children will not be able to decipher. We won't even bring up all the historical documents!

Last year I received a photocopy note that my grandfather, Arno Hennig sent to my father, Arno Hennig when he was a boy. My grandfather died just at the end of the war. His family grew up with out him, my grandfather knows nothing about his children and their accomplishments as adults.
This photocopy piece of paper from my grandfathers handwriting is precious to me.I was excited to find out that this note was saved after all this time.....  If I touch the letters, will it bring me closer to my Grandpa Arno?

I know it is easier to zip off an email/test message to family and friends. Maybe if everyone hand wrote a note and sent it to one person.... maybe that note is the one they keep and give to their ancestors in the future.

Thank you for taking a look!

See you very soon.

The weather today was -12c and cold. Everything is covered in frost and is frozen.

I hear the chickadees singing in the trees outside as they hunt for food.

Macro Monday---Frost

Day #328
Today is Macro Monday.
Waking up to frost on the branches of the trees and the deck rails, I thought I would use my macro lens and try and get a close up picture.

Fun in the snow,

Day #326 and 327
Coming home is such a wonderful feeling.... sleeping in your own bed, not living out of a suitcase, being greeted, loved and missed by the love of your life.
The weather on the weekend was sunny and beautiful, we took advantage of the sunshine and the snow.

Fourteen Days away....

Day # 308 to 325

I was asked to help my daughter in law for a few days. I have always felt that is what family/grandparents do...they step up and help. This gave me another chance for a flying trip to Alberta.

I does my heart good, when my grand daughter says, "I'm glad you are home", and my grandson says, "I'm keeping you for ever".  Then the youngest 2 month old smiles and coos at her grandmother.

A Sign
James and I had fun playing 'Hot Wheels'. I was using my cell phone to capture Motion.
One of my challenges is taking photographs of people. Aleah loves to pose and show off for the camera. Her cart wheels were amazing to me.... when I was her age... will not say any more.

I took the kids to the park, and trying to take a group photo... well, I need to do more home work on posing and getting them excited about having their photo taken esp. a teen ager.

#Airdrie Rocks
Baking Day  (edited)
Aleah is always spotting neat and interesting items at the park, she found a painted rock.... I told her why it was hidden and that she can keep the rock, or hide it for someone else to find. She kept the rock and both Aleah and James painted rocks when we returned home.

I did some baking, Cinnamon Buns and Butter horns. My son requests them when I come out to visit. The kids were awesome taste testers...and we did manage to freeze a batch for Andrew's Birthday gift.

We were walking around Nose Creek Park, and had notice a duck coming out of the grass, as we were walking along the path, we had noticed the duck... so we pretended that the duck was following Aleah!

On Board West Jet flight home

Landing in Vancouver
It was time to come home. My visit was longer with the kids having stomache flu... Everyone is on the mend. I was reminded that I was suppose to stay for a very long time... I guess 2 weeks just didn't cut it. But, they know I will return. Grandma Julie always does.

Grandma Julie needs to share her time at home in Prince George, but with other grandkids who are only a West Jet flight away.

So, now I am back... and will be posting on a regular bases once again... or until I get another call to fly....

Yesterdays snow, the world looked like a Snow Globe, someone gave us a good shake and the snow swirled around us! Creating a magical, dream like snowy winter wonderland!

That gave me an idea for today's photo challenge 'Dreams'... living in a snow globe?

Best Iphone photos for 2018

Day# 305

The photo challenge set for me today was: The Best Iphone photos for 2018.

I use my Iphone as a back up camera... when I have forgotten the camera, when the camera battery dies, or if I forgot the battery or memory card!
I have a lot of photos and trying to decide which ones were the best, the greatest... but for me it was the memories... of my newest grand child, my grand kids, the family wedding, our trip to Nova Scotia... the forest fire in BC this past summer, when we woke up to darkness...

Best Iphone photos for 2018

My trip to Nanaimo, Airdrie, the many walks and hikes Robert and I have done during the spring, summer and fall seasons.

What photos will I be sharing with you this coming year?? What adventures are instore for us. Only time will tell!

Abstract

Day #304

With the different sites to post your photos, not only does it give you a place to share your art, get reviews. You also get to see other artists/photographers work... and you learn from seeing others photographs on display.
Then I like to give it a try and see if I can come up with my own version... my own art...my camera is my paint brush and canvas!

Abstract
Another photographer on Instagram posted a photo, in the woods, using this technique. It was amazing with the natural light coming through the trees...
I used my Christmas tree as my light source.. and since the Christmas tree came down today....

What do you think of this photo?

See you very soon!

Thank you

Transportation/Bus

Day #303
Transportation
The City Bus
It was my only mode of transportation as a college student. I used the bus a lot, to get to classes, practicums, grocery, work, meeting friends. I didn't learn to drive until my second child was born. How many years was than???
Even when the kids were young and before we could afford to have 2 vehicles.. I took the city bus everywhere.
My kids loved it... paying the fare, getting the transfer tickets, pulling the bell,
 taking the bus was
a wonderful adventure for the children.

Transportation/Bus

Today,  instead of walking for exercise and to do a few errands, I took the city bus.
 I didn't bring a camera except for
my cell phone. Then at home I did some fun edits using one of the apps on my phone.

Thank you for taking a look.

See you very soon!

all the best

On the 12th day before Christmas
my true love gave me
flowers.
They are now ready for
the compost.
Looking at the
Lilys
I had noticed
even though
they are brown
and dry
they held
some beauty.

Traditons

Day #301

 Happy New Year!
How did you celebrate New Years last night?
There are traditions that we do each year that may have been a part of your own heritage.

In Scotland, New Year's Eve, or Hogmanay, as they call the last day of the year, is a bigger deal than Christmas ("Auld Lang Syne" is a Scottish song, after all). The massive party goes on for days and incorporates age-old acts, such as first-footing: It's considered good luck to have a tall, dark man enter the home for the first time after midnight—bearing auspicious gifts of course (coal, shortbread, salt!

Before you ring in the new year, close out the current one expressing gratitude for those who've made an impact in your last 12 months. What a beautiful way to end the old year and start fresh with the new!

In Mexico and other latin speaking countries, wearing brightly coloured under wear New Years Eve. Red for love, green or yellow for wealth, white for peace.

Eating 12 grapes at midnight-make a wish for each one to represent the 12 months of the  year.

Sweep away negativity-have your house fresh and clean- get rid of the years trash,  and negativity.

Sparklers
Last night we soaked in the hot tub, played with sparklers, drinking wine while listening to the fireworks around town.

Just letting you know.. that I wore red underwear, drank my 12 grapes in a wine glass and the man I love is dark and handsome and he was in the house first.... and I am thankful for my wonderful children and my friends....and oh yes,  my house is clean and fresh!

Happy New Year,
See you next time
